Niles police: Thief drives off car as owner refills it at Costco gas station

The following items were taken from Niles Police Department bulletins. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Theft

An unknown subject on July 27 took a gym bag containing clothes and car keys from an unlocked locker at the XSport Fitness on the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. The vehicle was still in the parking lot, police said.

An unknown subject entered a car and drove it away after the vehicle owner finished refueling at Costco on the 7200 block of Melvina Avenue on July 29, police said. According to police reports, they observed a white Volkswagen SUV involved in the incident on security footage.

A complainant stated July 31 he had arranged to sell his car on Facebook and met with someone on the 9100 block of Golf Road who flashed money, requested a test drive and drove off, police said. Police said the subject deleted the Facebook profile and neither the nearby Fifth Third Bank or lounge had video footage.

Disorderly conduct

Frank Swing, 27, of the 1600 block of Davis Street, Park Ridge, was cited July 27 for disorderly conduct after flipping picnic tables over at Golf Mill Park, police said.

Public intoxication

Daniel O’Connor, 58, of the 8500 block of Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, was cited July 27 for public intoxication and requiring emergency services on the 7500 block of North Harlem Avenue, police said.

Brendan Troy, 47, of the 6900 block of Tonty Avenue, Chicago, was arrested July 30 on the 6900 block of Keeney Street for public intoxication and requiring emergency services, police said.

Alexander Ponzio, 58, of the 7200 block of Greenleaf Street, Niles, was arrested July 30 for public intoxication and requiring emergency services at his residence July 30, police said.

Burglary

Justin Martinez, 19, of the 1500 block of Sacramento Drive, Hanover Park, was arrested July 30 on the 6300 block of West Touhy Avenue for burglary to a building and obstructing a peace officer, police said.

An unknown subject broke into a vehicle parked on the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue and took a laptop and laptop bag left in plain view July 28, police said.

Traffic violations

Leydi Vences Rojas, 23, of the 4300 block of Moody Avenue, Chicago, was arrested July 28 for driving without a valid driver’s license on the 8100 block of Milwaukee Avenue, police said. A court date is set for Sept. 5.

Mynor Morales, 45, of the 5100 block of Suffield Court, Skokie, was arrested July 31 for driving on a suspended driver’s license on the 5800 block of West Howard Avenue, police said.

Manuel Rivera, 30, of the 5400 block of Schubert Avenue, Chicago, was arrested July 31 on the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue for driving on a suspended driver’s license, police said. A court date is set for Sept. 12.

Timothy Fish, 36, of the 9200 block of Aspen Drive, Des Plaines, was arrested Aug. 1 at the intersection of Lyons and Maryland Street for driving on a revoked driver’s license, police said. A court date is set for Aug. 23.

Shontanette Lloyd, 27, of the 1200 block of Maple Avenue, Berwyn, was arrested Aug. 1 on the 7900 block of Golf Road for driving on a suspended driver’s license, police said. A court date is set for Sept. 12.

Gaetano Montalbano, 23, of the 200 block of Meacham Avenue, Park Ridge, was arrested Aug. 2 for speeding 74 mph in a 35 mph zone on the 7900 block of Dempster Street, police said. A court date is set for Sept. 19.

Drug possession

Richard Bunaciu, 31, of the 5800 block of Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, was cited Aug. 2 on the 5600 block of Touhy Avenue for possession of cannabis, police said.

Driving under the influence

Michael Hani, 53, of the 2900 block of Glenview Road, Glenview, was arrested Aug. 2 for driving under the influence for the fourth time and per an active warrant from Wheeling at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Coyle Street, police said.

Battery

Jesus Arias, 23, of the 8800 block of Grand Street, Niles, was arrested for domestic battery, harassment by an electronic communication device and threatening injury and according to an in-state warrant at his residence July 28, police said.

Kaylesha Johnson, 24, of the 1900 block of Ridgeway Avenue, Chicago, was arrested July 30 on the 8500 block of West Golf Road after getting into a fight, police said. A court date is set for Aug. 25.
